The National WIC Association completed a very successful 18th Annual Washington Leadership and WIC Food Package Implementation Summit. The Board of Directors and Staff of the National Office thank all who were able to take an active role in the Conference, in the Summit and who conveyed the message of WIC’s importance to the national agenda through visits to Congressional offices..

The Conference: March 9th – 10th

The conference will provide a forum to discuss federal health and nutrition initiatives affecting WIC participants and the Program, funding challenges of the current environment and other federal policy issues affecting the WIC Program. A White House Briefing is also scheduled for Monday, March 10. (See program for more details).

The Summit: March 11th

The WIC Food Package Implementation Summit will offer an opportunity to dialogue with leaders in the WIC community, USDA and Capitol Hill Staffers on the new WIC Food Package Rule and discuss the most effective way to implement the changes.

NWA members have waited better than a decade for this opportunity. The goal of the Summit will be two fold: to evolve a statement of shared principles that we may rely upon as we move forward towards full implementation of the food package changes and create a roster of resource experts that Summit participants may call upon for further counsel and consultation throughout their implementation experience.

The Summit will provide an important opportunity for state and local agencies representatives of the food manufacturing and retail grocery industries, the medical, and WIC nutrition communities and USDA to dialogue on this most important and monumental transformation that WIC is about to undertake.
